Why Buy?

Why buy Daisy Cakes, you may ask.

besides the fact that they are delicious, nut-free, and trans-fat free, 100% of this summer's profits go to Adopt-A-Platoon.

What is Adopt-A-Platoon, you may ask.

Adopt-A-Platoon is an organization dedicated to ensuring that troops stationed throughout the world are not forgotten at home.  Additionally, they strive to improve the quality of life for troops by supporting them with letters, cards, and care packages.

I have adopted 70-person combat medic unit stationed in Iraq.  With Daisy Cakes' profits, I will purchase supplies to fill care-packages throughout the year.

Corporate Cupcakes

For anyone who would like to place an order email me daisycakesnyc@gmail.com

This morning I dropped off another order for Jacqui to take to work.  Amazed by what he had tried yesterday, her boss wanted to bring some home for his wife, an educated cupcake consumer, to try. His wife sent this email to Jacqui moments after sampling vanilla-chocolate and chocolate-vanilla cupcakes: "
I just devoured one of the cupcakes--they are delicious!!!...Your cousin must be an exceptional person. We will spread the word to our friends in NYC...She should charge more than $2--people would pay more, as they are fantastic...and look so pretty, too."  Hooray for Daisy Cakes!

Around 11:30 I took to the streets and was once again received warmly by the generous Madison Square Park lunch crowd.  I was able to sell out completely by 1:30 and had the opportunity to meet several kind and interesting people.  One army veteran even taught me how to properly salute! Additionally, I had several repeat customers and one birthday boy.  Several people took large boxes bearing the Daisy Cakes logo back to their offices to share with their co-workers.  All in all today was a great success!

Unfortunately, I will be away this weekend and, thus unable to sell but look for me next week outside of Madison Square Park.

Wake and Bake

Today was an unexpectedly busy day!  I was up at 8:30 to drop off an order (a dozen assorted jumbos) for Jacqui to pick up on her way to work.  Fortunately, they were ready to go, and I was able to roll out of bed and give them to the doorman in an almost sleepwalk.  The morning escaped me as it always seems to do, and before I knew it it was lunch time and I had a batch of chocolate cupcakes in the oven.  My day was was spent predominantly in the kitchen mixing, tasting, and frosting, until a brief yoga break at 5.

By 6:30 I was back.  All the cupcakes were baked and looking especially tasty, so it was time to start making frosting.  After much experimenting, I along with my loyal crew of taste-testers (an arduous task indeed) agreed that a cream cheese-buttercream frosting was far tastier than plain buttercream.  Additionally, we learned that it does not cause the same sugar-delirium (bonus!).
In the middle of mixing the final cup of powdered sugar into the chocolate frosting, I received a call from Jacqui.  According to her, the cupcakes were a wild success both at work and with another mother.  (There were also a few compliments of my business cards!)  The cupcakes were such a hit at work that her boss placed an order for tomorrow so that his wife (a cupcake connoisseur) could try them.
After countless hours of baking and frosting I am shutting the kitchen doors and heading to bed.  Tomorrow afternoon I will be selling outside of Madison Square Park, so I need to rest up.  I am heading out with tons of cupcakes and hoping for a hungry lunch crowd!

Sweet Dreams!

Liftoff

Daisy Cakes launched this week and was received warmly by many New Yorkers. On Saturday we began at 34th street and 5th Avenue at 11:45 and, despite some hurdles (rain and college security guards), we were able to raise a significant amount of money in both sales and donations for Adopt-a-Platoon.

Sunday's sales surpassed our wildest dreams, and we were able to sell out all the cupcakes we brought in just over an hour. Madison Square Park-goers were also extremely generous in donations to support Adopt-a-Platoon. This may be my favorite selling location. Check my twitter, twitter.com/daisycakesnyc, to find out where and I'll be selling next week.
